bob-franquiz-picAbout 5 months ago I had the opportunity to get involved in a tele-coaching network led by Bob Franquiz. He is the lead and founding pastor of Calvary Chapel Miami Lakes and the founder of Church Strategies. He is the author of several books including Zero To Sixty. One of his passions is starting, building, and leading successful churches.

I was not looking to get involved in any sort of coaching network. At the time I was very busy failing in ministry and feeling very sorry for myself. I really did not have the time for coaching. We had just gone through a very nasty church split and I believed that I was just about done with this church as well as pastoral ministry.

The biggest challenge to quitting was my understanding of Romans 11:29; For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. I really believed the God called me to start this church and that He was not going to repent of that promise.

Anyway, through the kindness of others, I got involved in the network. The first three sessions were very informative. I liked the calls and learned useful information. Then something happened between the 3rd and 4th calls. My spirit seemed to be revived. I found myself leading the church in a way that had been absent before.  I was praying more. The preaching was more inspired.

Was it the coaching network? I do not know. I am certain that being a part of the network was an important part of my being able to move forward and stay in the ministry. Perhaps the greatest benefit I received from the coaching network was that I began to think about the church and my ministry. What a concept! What a breakthrough!

I highly recommend that pastors and church planters get involved in coaching networks. You can find out information about Church Strategies Tele-Coaching Network by going to http://www.church-strategies.com/. It sure has been a blessing for me.

Teaching The Pastor

Posted by: Jon Clayton | Comments (2)

bob-franquizFor years, I have been a bit skeptical of church leadership and training programs. I mean, isn’t that pretty un-spiritual? Well, the past 4 months have brought me to a new paradigm. I need help. The next challenge has been finding the training within the parameters of a Bible teaching enviornment. Fortunately God has supplied an answer.

That answer comes in the form of Bob Franquiz, of churchstrategies.com. Bob is the lead pastor of Calvary Chapel Miami Lakes. Church leadership is an issue that Bob has studied for many years. For several years he led the Bible College at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale.

His first tele-coaching class starts this Thursday, August 27th. And I am geeked-out over being involved. This is an answer to considerable prayer and soul searching.

Here is a preview:

Church Leadership Coaching is a 6-month network that focuses on the areas that Senior Pastors must grow in to lead growing churches. It has been said, “growing churches are led by growing leaders.” That means, if we want our churches to keep growing and reaching people, we must continue to grow as leaders. That’s why Church Leadership Coaching is perfectly suited to help leaders grow in their calling and skills as a Senior Pastor, it was designed for Senior Pastors by a Senior Pastor!

Here’s a sample of what will be covered in Each Coaching Session:

Session One: The Personal Development of the Senior Pastor
Session Two: Church Governance
Session Three: Developing Other Leaders
Session Four: Building an Effective Staff
Session Five: Preaching for Life Change
Session Six: Advanced Outreach Strategies

I am so excited about the possibilities. In a sense, this has revived my hopes.

There will be numerous updates as the network goes along.
