“I hope as I make advances in the spiritual life, I shall show my zeal more and more tempered with true Christian knowledge and prudence. I would willingly have none of my old wild fire mingled with the sacred fire that comes down from God’s altar. I desire not only to do things for God, but to do them in the best manner.”

“O let us be meek and quiet! O let us wait and we shall see the salvation of God.”

“While others are disputing, let us be growing. This will be the best way to convince those who you find will not be convinced any other way.”

“I lose nothing by being quiet and leaving all to Him.”

George Whitefield’s deepening spirituality as the controversy with John Wesley broke his heart, quoted in Arnold Dallimore’s biography of Whitefield, II:75.

The Love Of God

Posted by: Jon Clayton | Comments (0)

“There is no other solution to the marvelous mysteries of His Incarnation and Sacrificial Death but this: Christ has loved us.

There is not a circumstance of our Lord’s history which is not another form or manifestation of love.

His incarnation is love stooping.
His sympathy is love weeping.
His compassion is love supporting.
His grace is love acting.
His teaching is the voice of love.
His silence is the repose of love.
His patience is the restraint of love.
His obedience is the labor of love.
His suffering is the travail of love.
His cross is the altar of love.
His death is the burnt offering of love.
His resurrection is the triumph of love.
His ascension into heaven is the enthronement of love.
His sitting down at the right hand of God is the intercession of love.

Such is the deep, the vast, the boundless ocean of Christ’s love!” — Octavius Winslow

david-wayneDavid Wayne at Jollyblogger has a fascinating post at his site; What If You Only Had One Month To Live? I would suggest reading this post. He has the testimony to write on the subject. Very interesting stuff.

Struggles

Posted by: Jon Clayton | Comments (0)

ihavedecidedIn this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith — the salvation of your souls (1 Peter 1:6-9).

I am really going through a series of trials in my life as well as ministry. This has been a real struggle for me. Last night as I was praying, several things occurred to me:

  • God is still on the throne,
  • He loves me,
  • He desires to use my situation and struggle to form His Son in me,
  • I can resist OR I can submit; the choice is mine.

God never said the Christian life was easy. What is easy about dying to self? Absolutely nothing!

God is so awesome!

He Will Not Let Go Of You

Posted by: Jon Clayton | Comments (0)

To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ (Jude 1).

The original language used the perfect tense. The nearest equivalent of it is, “They are continually kept by Jesus Christ.” Whatever difficulties you are facing today as a believer, you are preserved in Christ. He is going to keep you. He will not let go of you.

A Time Of Refreshing

Posted by: Jon Clayton | Comments (0)

chesterfield-gorgeThis past Memorial Day weekend was a time of refreshing in the Lord for Cheryl and I. Of course we had to hold our Sunday worship service. It was also the first time we had led the music. But Sunday afternoon and Monday was a special time in the Lord. I really needed it. On Monday we went to Chesterfield Gorge. For us, hiking in the woods of New Englang is relaxing.

This is something we all need in our Christian lives; times of renewal and refreshment. For us hiking drews us closer to the Lord. Perhaps fpr another a retreat with their local church leads them to a time of renewal. It does not matter what your activity is, the point is to set aside time in your life to draw close to Him.

Set aside some time this week to draw close to the Lord. If you can take a whole day, that is great. Maybe you only have a few hours, use that to seek God. You walk will show the results!
